    Sampit Welcomes New Principal

    Tara Ward

Sampit Elementary will soon welcome a new principal. Starting July 1, 2021, Tara Ward will take over as principal of Sampit. At the June 8 board meeting, Superintendent Keith Price recommended and the GCSD School Board approved the selection.

“Ms. Wardis committed to ensuring that the varied needs of all students are met and building upon the strong home-school-community relationships that have been established,” said Executive Director of Elementary Schools, Fedrick Cohens.

Superintendent Price said, “Throughout the interview process, I enjoyed hearing Mrs. Ward’s ideas for the Sampit family and her learning about her role as an instructional leader who guides and supports her fellow educators.  Most importantly, her passion for and commitment to the success of each of her students makes her a great match for the culture that currently exists at Sampit.  I look forward to seeing many Sampit success stories under Mrs. Ward’s leadership.”

Ward will replace the current principal, Sabrina Goff-Mack who is retiring after thirty years of dedicated service to GCSD. Ward currently serves as an assistant principal at Andrews Elementary.

“I look forward to building lasting relationships with the Sampit community as we work to ensure the success of our students.  It will be an honor to serve the students, parents, faculty and staff of Sampit Elementary,” said Ward.

Ward is a native of Georgetown County and a graduate of Andrews High School. She has spent her educational career at Andrews Elementary where she taught third and first grades prior to becoming the assistant principal.  Ward holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Coastal Carolina University; a Master of Education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College; and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina.
