The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on December 10, 2015.  The ESSA replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and is the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).  As required by ESSA, every parent of a student attending a Title I school has the right to request and receive information in a timely manner regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s) and, if appropriate, paraprofessional staff.  If requested, the information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s) shall include the following:

• Whether the teacher has met the state qualification and certification requirements for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

• Whether the teacher is teaching under a provisional status through which state qualification or certification requirements for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction have been waived;

• The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and

• Whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

Carta de derecho de los padres a saber

El Congreso de los EE. UU. Aprobó la Ley de Todos los Estudiantes Triunfa (ESSA) y la promulgó el 10 de diciembre de 2015. La ESSA reemplaza la Ley No Child Left Behind (NCLB) y es la última reautorización de la Ley de Educación Primaria y Secundaria (ESEA) Según lo exige ESSA, cada padre de un estudiante que asiste a una escuela de Título I tiene el derecho de solicitar y recibir información de manera oportuna con respecto a las calificaciones profesionales de los maestros del salón de clases de su hijo y, si corresponde, del personal paraprofesional. Si se solicita, la información con respecto a las calificaciones profesionales de los maestros del aula de su hijo deberá incluir lo siguiente:

• Si el maestro ha cumplido con los requisitos de certificación y calificación estatal para los niveles de grado y las áreas temáticas en las que el maestro brinda instrucción;

• Si el maestro está enseñando bajo un estado provisional a través del cual los requisitos estatales de certificación o calificación para los niveles de grado y las áreas temáticas en las cuales el maestro proporciona instrucción han sido eximidos;

• El título de licenciatura del maestro y cualquier otra certificación de postgrado o título que posea el maestro, y el campo de disciplina de la certificación o título; y

• Si el estudiante recibe servicios de paraprofesionales, y si es así, sus calificaciones.
